Podcast Page

A podcast is an audio broadcast for a digital player or a computer. The pod derives from iPod which is a portable, digital music or speech player.

Introduction

In my opinion, Abraham Lincoln was the greatest president in the history of the United States. History is defined by the actions of men and women under difficult circumstances. The Gettysburg Address is one of the most read speeches of any president. My podcast is a reading of Lincoln's speech at Gettysburg. Edward Everett was the main speaker and delivered a 2 hour speech. Lincoln followed with a 2 to 3 minute speech.

Classroom Use

Podcasts can be a future teaching device. Students have iPods. History is filled with an inexhaustible supply of primary source documents. As a teacher, I would be able to record my reading of the primary source documents and allow my students to listen to them instead of just reading the documents. We can pause the recording when a passage needs more explanation. Podcasts can also be used be substitute teachers on days when I would be unable to attend school. Lessons can be prerecorded so the substitute would just have to play them for the students.
